about my work

mukepno

Being asked to explain my work in just one sentence I would answer:
I'm working with memories, my own, someone else's, confabulation or false memories
and I'm using a wide range of material: from barbed wire to beeswax.

Some of my works evoke memories of things never seen before
and of times that have never been.
I try to create things which open up space for the unknown, the uncertain, for dreams and ambivalence.

I'm fascinated by poor, cheap material, things that are normally cast away.
I'm a collector, I'm not good at throwing away.
Maybe it's the habit of post-war children, whose parents lost so much during the war.
Maybe it's my protest against capitalism and its pursuit of bigger, faster and wealthier.

I'm attracted to wax - especially beeswax; my paintings are encaustics.
